A picture can paint a thousand words: a story can paint more than a thousand pictures.

Images of Literature
I was organising all my images over the holidays. My favourite ones are both based on the play Hamlet and I have seen the originals in London. They illustrate poignant moments in the play: firstly Ophelia's rejection of Hamlet and her death.
I used to be a fan of a series of Greek myths, where each book contained an occasional page or two of paintings depicting the characters- both mortal and immortal. The paintings were mostly Baroque, by artists like Rubens and Poussin (though I don't know anything about them besides that they were great painters!) As a kid I was quite shocked and amused at all the nakedness, but who doesn't love a good painting?
Ah hello yes I finally remember to post on the blog. Anyway its quite fascinating how many of the Greek paintings are naked. I think its because so long ago they didnt used to be able to wear the wonderful clothes that we have the priviledge of wearing. Greek myths are cool. Shame we're not doing Hamlet this year but Emma will be fun!
